If a registered participant needs to withdraw from the Event due to extenuating circumstances, (and upon presentation of a valid medical certificate, where applicable), a refund may be provided at the discretion of Women’s Spirit Project (WSP) Management. Where it is determined a refund shall be offered, a $75 administration fee will be deducted from any refund provided in accordance with the full terms and conditions.

In the event the WSP is prevented (directly or indirectly) from performing any or all of its obligations by reason of an Australian government agency declaring restrictions on the region where the Frank to Schanck walk is to operate, lockdowns preventing participation in the event or state border closures preventing participants from travelling from interstate to the event location, or any other associated reason, which is beyond the reasonable control of the WSP, the WSP will provide a full refund.

Alternatively, participants can opt for funds to be held in credit to be carried over for our next F2S or equivalent 3-day walking event.

No. Due to lack of coverage under our insurance policy and in line with our COVID Safe Plan, children are not permitted at the training walks.

Yes. You are required to submit a registration form for the training walks (even if you cannot participate in the actual F2S event). This is for insurance purposes and in order to comply with our COVID Safe Plan.

Please contact WSP on [email protected] and we can help you register for the training walks.

We strongly encourage women to participate in our training walks if their intention is to participate in the F2S Event.  Of course, if you do not live locally, you are not obliged to train with the WSP Team Teal, but are encouraged to undertake the required amount of training closer to your home.

The WSP strongly advises that appropriate training must be undertaken in order to adequately prepare for this type of multi-day walk event.

The Event Briefing dates are Saturday, 3 September, and Saturday, 22 October, 2022.  Webinar times will be advertised on the closed Facebook Page and via email.

Record your walks and log your kms throughout the event to complete your personal distance.

You can log your kms in the following ways:

Your own GPS device

A fitness app such as Strava, Garmin or MapMyFitness

Convert your time spent walking to approximate kms manually

Strava is an online Fitness app. It helps you see how you’re tracking, allows our community to encourage each other and is great for motivation. If you don’t want to sign up to STRAVA, that’s okay!

To be part of the WSP online walking community sign up and join the WSP Group on Strava.

HOW IT WORKS

1.     Sign up for Strava at- https://www.strava.com/register/free

2.     Request to join the Women’s Spirit Project Strava Club – further details on this are available on the WSP website.

3.     Complete your walks tracking with the Strava app or by linking your own GPS device to Strava

4.     IMPORTANT: Please register your walks as ‘runs’. Strava offers the free app to groups like ours but you need to select the run option (even if you are walking)

5.     Share your progress with the Club and on the Facebook page

We strongly recommend you wear sturdy walking shoes that provide you with the best support and comfort level to walk on a variety of different terrains. This includes residential footpaths, bitumen roads, gravel and rocky trails, bush trails, grass, boardwalks and some sand and over 20+ kilometres daily. Only you will know what best suits your feet by undertaking multiple training walks in various conditions and over various terrain.   Consider that the weather may be rainy and your shoes should offer some water-resistance to cope with walking through grass or puddles. It could also be quite warm, making feet hot resulting in blisters.  The journey will take you from areas that are flat across undulating hills and will also include one steep decent and one steep incline.  You could make use of both styles of shoe (i.e., changing between the morning session to the afternoon session). Importantly, make sure your shoes are properly worn in. New unworn shoes are almost guaranteed to result in blisters.   Join our webinar on Saturday 3rd September as our panel of walking experts will offer further advice and answer any questions you may have.
We will share an equipment list at the Webinar Briefing Session on 3th September and will share this via our Facebook page following the webinar.
Lunch  Hat   Water / Hydration Pack   Sunscreen  Snacks  Personal medical kit incl. Band-Aids / Blister Pads  Personal medications  Spare Clothes  Tissues  Emergency toilet paper

We will walk in all conditions except in the case of extreme weather events including lightning. Make sure you have what you need in your day pack to dress appropriately for the daily forecasted weather.

The walk will be capped at 150 women including a team of up to 30 volunteers who will undertake the following roles: Walk Leaders, Wellbeing Support and Logistics.

Women will vary in ages and experience however will all have a common goal of completing, and supporting others to complete the three-day event.

The Frank to Schanck is intended to be an adventure for women who have a goal of participating in a long-distance walk and may not have previously had the opportunity due to personal circumstances including affordability.

Women joining this walk are signing up with the aim of participating in an accessible and supportive event that supports them to set and achieve a goal.

The Frank to Schanck (2022) Event is not competitive. It has been designed to support women with a range of abilities to complete.

Women will need to be able to walk approximately 5km per hour for 4-5 hours for three consecutive days. The terrain will include residential footpaths, bitumen roads, gravel and rocky trails, bush trails, grass, boardwalks and some sand.  There is one steep decent and one steep ascent. It is strongly recommended to undertake some training on elevated areas in order to best prepare for this 3-day walk event.

The Event is not competitive and has been designed to support women with a range of abilities.

30 volunteers are donating their time over three days and will hold a variety of roles to;

  • Ensure the event runs smoothly
  • Best support every participant to complete the event
  • Provide emergency support if needed and ensure risk management protocols are observed

The Logistics Team will be there to ensure we stay on the right track, guiding us at different points and ensuring that medical, transport and other support is provided as needed.

Walk Leaders will be located at the front, middle and back of the pack, overseeing and supporting the different sections of the group and liaising with the logistics team. Walk Leaders will carry comprehensive first aid kits.

Wellbeing Leaders will be located throughout the front, middle and back of the pack to provide emotional support and encouragement.

No, you do not have to personally fundraise.     We are in the process of finalising an online fundraising platform to support the WSP to continue to deliver accessible, low-cost activities such as the F2S Walk in 2023, as well as our ‘Spirit of Transformation’ Programs — a fitness, health and wellbeing program for vulnerable women on a recovery journey, across Frankston, Kingston and the Mornington Peninsula in 2023.     You will not be expected to contribute funds, however we greatly appreciate your support in promoting the Fundraising Campaign so Team Teal can continue to support women in the community.

I am aware of the hazards involved and engage in the activity at my own risk.

I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to notify the event organiser of any Medical Conditions, Allergies and/or Medications and Emergency Contact details.

I attest that I am physically fit prior to undertaking the Frank to Schanck Adventure (2024) and that I am not aware of any undisclosed illness, injury, physical disability or impairment that may cause me injury or death during, or because of, my participation.

I acknowledge the WSP’s advice to arrange ambulance cover in case of emergency and consider personal accident insurance cover for any unforeseen loss, damage, or injury that may arise out of or in connection with participating in the event.

I acknowledge that I am solely responsible for ensuring adequate training has been completed, an appropriate level of fitness obtained, and that medical clearance may be required if I have underlying health issues.

I agree to provide a doctor’s certificate if the WSP deem that I need medical clearance to participate based on any physical conditions that might be brought to the team’s attention either during training or by me during the registration process.

I accept all risks, dangers and liabilities that may result from my participation in the Frank to Schanck Adventure (2024) including, but not limited to, property loss or damage, loss of life or permanent injury.

I consent to receive medical treatment which may be deemed necessary in the event of my injury/accident/illness during the Event. I understand that treatment requested from first aid personnel is at my own risk and that details will be forwarded to event organisers.

I agree, in consideration of and, as a condition of acceptance of my entry in the Frank to Schanck Adventure (2024) for myself, my heirs, executors and/or administrators, to hereby waive all and any claim, right or cause of action which could, would or might arise out of my death or injury, damage, loss or expense of any description whatsoever that I may suffer or sustain in the course of, or consequent upon my entry or participation in the Event or as a result of any acts or omissions, their authorised representatives or any other party involved in the Frank to Schanck Adventure (2024).

  • Fail to accept the terms of the Risk Waiver before participating.

3.  CANCELLATION POLICY

In the event The Women’s Spirit Project is prevented (directly or indirectly) from performing any of its obligations under this agreement by reason of an Australian government agency declaring restrictions on the region where the Frank to Schanck Event Adventure (2024) is to operate, lockdowns preventing participation in the event or state border closures preventing participants from travelling from interstate to the event location, minimum booking numbers not being reached or any other associated reason, which is beyond the reasonable control of The Women’s Spirit Project, The Women’s Spirit Project will provide a full refund. Alternatively, participants can opt for funds to be held in credit to be carried over for the next Frank to Schanck Event or equivalent 3-day walking event or nominate any fees paid to be donated to the organisation.

4. INCLEMENT WEATHER OR OTHER CONDITIONS

Frank to Schanck will operate regardless of weather conditions, except in the case of lightning or electrical storms making the event unsafe, or where there is weather considered to be unsafe by the WSP or if for any reason conditions are such that WSP’s insurance would be void or voided should the event proceed. WSP may choose a suitable alternate venue or route. The route or venue may not be the same as proposed if it is deemed unsafe, but the WSP will use reasonable endeavours to find a suitable alternative. This may include changes to the timing, distance, and location of the event.

In the event the walk is unable to proceed because of a bush fire or extreme weather conditions, the WSP will transfer the walk to another date, if possible.

5.  REFUND POLICY

Registration fees are non-refundable, as many of the costs and fees are preparatory and are incurred from before I register through to the event commencing. I acknowledge as a registered participant that if I need to withdraw from the Event (2024) due to extenuating circumstances, (and upon presentation of a valid medical certificate, where applicable), that a partial refund may ONLY be provided at the discretion of WSP Management. Where it is determined a refund shall be offered, I acknowledge a $100 administration fee will be deducted from any refund provided.

I can arrange to transfer my registration to another walker prior to the cut-off date, providing they complete the full registration form and sign these terms & conditions prior to the event.

6. DURING THE EVENT

All event distances have a time limit to keep participants on track. No one should walk alone for safety purposes. All walkers must follow the route outlined by WSP and not detour from the route by more than 50 metres at any time. If you do not follow the route as outlined by WSP, you will do so at your own risk. If you do not reach check in points within the allocated time limit, you may need to be transferred to the next check-in point, or to the finish line, by a support vehicle.

If the WSP deem the course unsafe (for example by reason of heavy rain, high winds, bushfires, ‘acts of god’) we may, at our sole discretion, re-route the course, find an alternative shortened course or cancel the event.

If you suffer a non-life-threatening injury during the event, you must alert a WSP team member and / or call the Emergency number. Event First Aider/s will render assistance as soon as possible. In case of an emergency (e.g. serious/ life-threatening injury, bush fire etc) you must call 000 immediately.

You should carry a small day pack and aim to be self-sufficient for the duration of the event, topping up food and water en-route as required. Make sure you have plenty of water. You MUST carry a minimum of 2 litres, regardless of the event distance.

I acknowledge that I am responsible for my personal possessions and equipment during the Event.

I acknowledge that I must follow all directions given to me by the employees, volunteers or representatives of WSP.

7.  USE OF NAME

I consent to the publication and/or use of my name, image or otherwise, (including the publication of my name and/or Frank to Schanck Event (2024) participation in any broadcast, telecast, advertising, promotion or other account of this Event, in any form of media and social media whatsoever including advertising and promotions for future Women’s Spirit Project events, or for any legitimate purpose) without payment or compensation.

I agree, to notify Women’s Spirit Project (WSP) prior to the event in writing if I disagree with Clause 6 of the Terms and Conditions.

To protect the privacy of other event participants, I agree not to share or tag posts, images, clips or content from closed (private) WSP social media groups with external parties unless express permission is granted by the WSP Managing Director.

8.  THE ROUTE

Route details will be available from October 2024 and distributed to registered participants. WSP advises the route will be marked on Event Days as best as possible.

I agree, for my own safety, to follow the route markers, follow the instructions of Event Marshals and demonstrate self-navigation with provided route information. Every event is unique, and some parts of the route can be less urbanised than other parts. I acknowledge the importance of reviewing the route information and agree to review the route details before setting out.

I acknowledge event distances are approximate and may vary, detour or change on or prior to Event Days due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather and / or other safety considerations.

9. RESPECT FOR ENVIRONMENT

I acknowledge the WSP’s ‘Leave No Trace’ approach which means I will take nothing but memories and photos, carrying out any packaging and food waste – depositing it via designated bins at the end of the day. I will stick to designated paths and not walk across vegetation.
